up and down the hill

so, I actually did go running today. It has almost become a daily routine, in a good way, cos 1. I have to report to you and 2. the feeling after the run. They say its called the “runner’s high”. I’ve been high on other things I will not even start mentioning, but this high is the good high. Its just the one! Whenever I manage to climb back up the steep hill to the start point, there is this satisfaction I get of achieving something real big. You know the climbing-mount-Kilimanjaro feeling-once-you-make-to-the-peak-feeling? That feeling. Then there is this calm, joy and peace in my heart, I feel burden free!!

So today I made it to 5.4km. The map thingie backfired but I managed to secure this;

Was pleased afterwards.

Some article I read back about Rudisha et al, it said that they manage to run far distances without the ‘distraction’ of music. I don’t understand how one can actually keep going without music. I find music to be very motivational, especially with a high tempo song, you can go far. I changed my playlist,  got dj protege’s mixes, he does trance and house, I got one with one of my favorite songs and I tell you it has made a difference to me. Now i can almost (almost because i still struggle to complete the run especially towards the end) finish 5 km comfortably as opposed to back then when I could only do 3km and was really proud of myself (not that 3km is bad, don’t get me wrong, but training for a 21km marathon race, 3km with no improvement is…BAD). So viva the running. It would be great though if I had a running partner.Those who run with partners should share the experiences. DO they weigh you down? Encourage you? Make the run fun? Motivate you to  go even further? Do share. My goal now is to reduce the time I run the 5km, maybe to 20mins? Will I? Lets see how this goes. You all are welcome.

I just finished reading The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, I must say this is one of those books that have been well written, I actually felt I was in Germany.(The writing evolves around the Hitler times but not about him, it isn’t mein kampf) He writes about the life of a kid in Germany during those times, then there are those bad neighbors (some of you can relate to:)) and love of course. Its just a good book. You might cry. Pick it if you can when you next go book shopping.

I’m thinking of reading 50 shades of grey. Anyone read it/is reading it? What do you think?

Otherwise, its Friiiiiiiday, enjoy your day, weekend and month folks! Lets meet after the next run. Who’s coming?

Getting Started!!

Before anything,i would like to thank JBMK for helping me figure out all this, im abit slow in these things, Asante 🙂

So, I’ve decided to get into writing, cos that, I see, is the only way I can get my running serious. There are those days that I simply toss and turn and think what the hell, it’s never that serious, but then again, it actually is. I’ve given enough reasons, and I mean enough from the sun has risen abit too early, I don’t want motorists disturbing me (those truck drivers on the highway, pu!) to the sun is too hot, it will wear me out before I even do a km, to ive eaten lots of chillies wont be able to run, to…the list is endless.

Triathlete liam (@triatheleteliam) tweeted the other day that you can either choose to have excuses or choose results, you can’t have both. True to those words, the only way to get the results is getting rid of the excuses. So, again, back to getting started, writing will make me accountable to this.

Of course I’m running to look good (that bikini won’t wear itself) and for the marathon in October. Last year it took me three hours of running, walking, stretching on the way, cheering other runners and getting back to running to finish the half marathon. Enough people flew past me while I was panting you might think I drunk a litre of elianto just before running, meh. This year I have to practice and train hard to take a maximum of 1.5 hours.

So, I have vowed to write about the running, I will share my routes too although I tend to stick to a route till I hit at least 10km,(ok maybe 8)that’s why I stick to it cos it takes a while, but I will record it anyways. I will try and look for a variety of routes too to avoid monotony. I got runtastic (www.runtastic.com) an app on my fone which is a really good app for working out, shows how many kms you are running, the calories burnt etc., so I will use it too. I will also try and take many pics to keep the writing going. Feel free to drop any suggestions, any run clubs or groups you are in, or want to form and I will join or participate or at least try to.

I may also write about the books I’m reading on those good days, if anyone is reading, has read would like to read what I’m reading, we can discuss too, you can borrow one of my books, yea we can discuss.

If I travel anywhere as well, I will include the different places too.

Let’s make 2013 exciting shall we?
